Health care user charges

The health care systems in the Nordic countries cover all citizens. In general, health care services are subsidized to a high extent, or free of charge. Various types of user charges apply to different services, such as physician consultations, hospitalizations, and pharmaceuticals. The principles for maximum payments and reimbursements also vary. All countries have consistent rules applied nationwide for each type of service, except Sweden where some user charges may differ between regions.
