The sale of medicines is of great importance for the health of our societies and can be seen both as an indicator of illness as well as the capability to treat it. It is carefully registered in national registers in all the Nordic countries.
Sales are measured in DDD/1000 inhabitants/day, where DDD, the Defined Daily Dose, is the internationally standardized measurement for each preparation following the ATC classification.
